If you had been paying close attention, you may have noticed that the procedure listed in the Project 1 kickoff post has actually changed since I first posted it. I figure that now would be a good time to explain those changes because the testing phase of the project is going slower than expected (I don't generate laundry as fast as I expected that I would).
First, I was planning on doing the bedsheets and the towels as one massive laundry load to test drying time. The first time I ran the test, however, the towels and the sheets dried at such different rates that the test confused the dryer's moisture detector (the towels weren't try when the dryer stopped from detecting the dry sheets). So instead, I'll be separating it into two different sets. This change also has the side effect of making the whole process more scientific. Woohoo!
Otherwise, I also want refine the test for absorbency. The first time I ran this test, I found that water drips from the towel for a very long time.....longer than I have patience for. So the testing procedure will be as follows: I will grab one corner of the towel and allow it to drip. When the drips stop flowing continuously and start making distinct and separated droplets, the test will be over. This change has the side effect of making this test less scientific.
All in all...lets call it a scientific wash....going from "only marginally scientific in the first place" to "still only marginally scientific."
